Honey Harvest: Honey harvesting can be from natural beehives and artificial or apiary beehives. Natural beehives are usually found in any tall tree or backyard dark place or forest area. There is no maintenance cost for natural beehives, but beekeepers don’t have any control over it. Cambodia is an ideal place for giant beehives and in other places it’s found rarely. There is no scope to build a giant beehive in apiary as all the honey combs are similar in size.

Sometimes we found giant beehives under ground. Bees like to store honey in a place without disturbance and want to escape from humans. So, they like dark place, tall tree or deep forest area to build a giant hive. Humans not only steal their honey, but also kill them with fire to collect honey. It’s really unethical and destructive for them.

When there is any hole to go under ground and open space to make hive, bees become interested to make giant beehive in such dark place. They think nobody can disturb them and steal honey. If you find such hole and flying bees toward the hole then you can try to remove the soil carefully. Don’t destroy the hives during digging soil.

Wear bee suit, veil, shoes, & hand gloves before starting work for beehives. Use smoker to avoid bee sting and collect hives gently to save bees from killing. These type of beehives are not so usual and rarely you can find sometimes. It’s amazing to collect honey from beehives under ground.

In the picture you’ll find beehive in a pillar with GI wire that fence around a mastered oil field. This type of hives are usually found in Asia. Mastered oil field is full of yellow flowers with nectar. Bees make beehives in nearest area to collect more honey.

Asian beekeepers collect huge honey from mustered oil field and this is the main target of their honey production. They wait all the year round for this season and place their apiary beehives near mastered oil field at least 15 days before the flower start blooming.

After collecting beehives beekeepers usually cut the honeycombs and separate from the hive to spin out honey by hand. They remove bees from honey combs and press hardly to extract honey.

After extracting honey they filter it through a smooth sieve to separate dead bees and other substances from honey. It may require several times to filter.

Filtered honey is now ready to eat or packaging for sell. It’s similar to raw honey of Apiary. In Apiary beekeepers evaporate honey to reduce and control moisture and keep moisture between 18-20%. The above types of beehives can be found in any area but more in Cambodia forest area. If a beehive at the top of a tall tree, take care specially and make full preparation before starting the work.
